“BABA KEKERE” BERTHS AT GLOVER HALL 


 
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour as “Baba Kekere”, a play showcasing the life and times of the first Civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, is staged at the Glover Hall Marina, Lagos, on Tuesday, 3rd May, 2022, at 6p.m.
 
A statement issued by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture said members of the Lagos State Executive Council and other dignitaries would also attend the event to watch the play, with over 600 VIP tickets already distributed. 
 
Speaking about the play, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Pharm. Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, said the rendition will spotlight the giant strides of late Alhaji Jakande’s administration, especially in the areas of Education, Health, and Infrastructure among others.
 
Akinbile-Yussuf said the play, written and directed by Makinde Adeniran and co-produced by Mr. Solomon Bonu, was initially staged at the Agip Recital Hall of Muson Centre and attended by over 5,000 viewers.
 
Members of the Jakande family including his widow, Alhaja Abimbola Sikirat Jakande and his son Mr. Deji Jakande also watched the maiden edition of the historic play.
 
Noting that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture will continue to support the creative industry in contributing to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the State, the Commissioner said “Baba Kekere” showcases the landmark achievements of the Jakande administration.
 
In the same vein, the co-producer, Mr. Bonu, said “The play has been widely accepted by Lagosians as evidenced by the huge turnout at its earlier showing due to the fact that most people are endeared to Alhaji Jakande, his policies and the legacies he left behind. Policies that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration continues to expand and deepen with its T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda”.
 
The production was supported by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Lagos State Ministry of the Environment, as well as agencies of the Lagos State Government including the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) and the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA).
 
Private-sector sponsors include Purple, First Bank of Nigeria, Zenith Bank and Anchor Insurance.
